Beignets are delicious, especially when they are piping hot, are covered in powdered sugar, and come from a vendor at the Crawfish Fest…although I hear they are much more amazing at the famous Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. Still, these frittery treats tasted quite good on this particular morning as we prepared for a long day of serving drinks with the local volunteer firefighters.
Crawfish Fest – High & Mighty Brass Band
It’s Crawfish Fest this weekend at the nearby Sussex County Fairgrounds, and Heather and I are looking forward to another year of helping the Frankford Fire Department serve healthy amounts of adult beverages. Crawfish Fest is a combination of great music, delicious New Orleans food, and a really fun and good-spirited atmosphere…if you’re not doing anything today, come check it out (www.crawfishfest.com).
This photo was taken last year as one of the bands, High & Mighty Brass Band, was walking through the fairgrounds on the way to their show. They developed a nice train of followers and played a great set of music right behind the area where we were working. They’re not on the billing for this year, but there are a lot of excellent bands on the schedule!
Valentine’s Day, Crawfish-Style
With Mardi Gras only a week ago, I thought I would get into the spirit a bit early. Heather and I were enjoying wearing our beads at last year’s Crawfish Fest in northern New Jersey while serving drinks to the masses. Lots of people gave us compliments…although I think I got the bulk of the comments for the one necklace I was wearing… The Crawfish Fest is always a long weekend of work, but we’re glad to provide a helping hand…and also eat beignets and alligator sausage!
We were probably a bit dirty/grimy/tired when this photo was taken near the end of the day, but we still managed to look happy together! So Happy Valentine’s Day, Heather!
